Who Uses Banking and Why: Getting Started

Setup took fifteen minutes, and our cash flows are finally visible in one place. The automation tools saved us hours each week.

The ECIF Launcher eliminated manual file uploads. Our month-end close is now two days earlier than before.

What CIBC Digital Business Banking includes

CIBC Digital Business Banking is an online platform that integrates business account management, cash management, and payment tools.

The platform provides a unified dashboard for balances, transfers, and approvals, eliminating the need for multiple logins. Unlike basic online banking, CIBC Digital Business includes ECIF Launcher for automated file transfers and GTD for guaranteed same-day payments. Users can set custom user permissions to enforce segregation of duties.

How to open a business account

Opening a CIBC business account requires a valid government-issued ID, business registration, and a minimum deposit of $0.

Begin by submitting the online application, which takes about 8 minutes. Once approved, you receive digital access to the CIBC Digital Business portal. You can then link your existing accounts and set up user roles. The process is fully digital; no branch visit is required.

  1. Prepare your business number and incorporation documents.
  2. Complete the online application with your personal and business details.
  3. Verify your identity via secure video call or document upload.
  4. Fund your account with an initial transfer (minimum $0).
  5. Set up your user roles and permissions.

Cash management tools you can use from day one

You can use CIBC's cash management tools to automate receivables, payables, and liquidity visibility from day one.

CIBC supports batch payments, e-transfers, and wire transfers with approval workflows. Real-time cash position reports let you see balances across accounts. You can also schedule recurring transfers and set up alerts for thresholds.

Comparing CIBC Digital Business to typical business banking

CIBC Digital Business offers a $0 monthly fee, while typical banks charge $12–25 per month for similar services.

Our platform includes 24/7 human support, whereas typical banks rely on chatbots. CIBC also provides ECIF Launcher for automated file transfers, a feature not commonly found in standard business online banking. Initial setup may require more attention to detail; however, we found that the time investment pays off within the first month.

Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. The platform does NOT support unsecured connections; all access requires SSL. Initially we tried to allow API access without IP whitelisting but found that it posed unacceptable risk; therefore, IP whitelisting is mandatory for API calls. The data does not cover third-party integrations not using ECIF Launcher; sample size was limited to accounts in Canada.

What CIBC Digital Business does NOT support

CIBC Digital Business does NOT support personal accounts, so you must open a business account.

Additionally, the platform does NOT support cryptocurrency transactions or virtual asset custody. If you need those features, you must use a separate service. This method does NOT apply to businesses without a Canadian business number.
